Ocarina of Time Remake Comparison: N64, 3DS & Switch 2
The three editions share a history, but only Nintendo-confirmed 2026 changes belong in a remake comparison before launch.
Edition overview
The original launched for Nintendo 64 in 1998; Ocarina of Time 3D is a separate Nintendo 3DS production from 2011; the new version is announced for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

Confirmed 2026 changes
Nintendo describes reimagined visuals, refreshed music and modernised gameplay. It also lists enhanced controls, modern camera movement, voiced cutscenes and expanded dialogue.
Performance, room layouts, item placements, difficulty, and route changes remain TBD until a release build can be verified.
Remake or remaster?
Nintendo’s current wording calls the 2026 release a remake. Ocarina of Time 3D is also a distinct remake release, not proof of what the Switch 2 game will contain.
